Psychotherapy and Psychic Phenomena – Dr. Theodora Stolz

Dr. Theodora Stolz retains an open mind about the possible effects of psychic phenomena in the mental and spiritual experiences of her patients, and feels psychic alternatives are to be considered and weighed in the emotional health of her patients.   Dr. Stolz has vigorously promoted her Cape May retreats, a therapy designed to remove the patient from the everyday and give him or her a deeper psychotherapy experience.  The purpose is to give an intensity to therapeutic techniques, to promote the combined sciences of psychology and psychic phenomenon.  Dr.  Stolz also wants to promote the use of reiki palm healing techniques, and meditation experiences for both a group, and for the individual.

Dr. Stolz also believes in the phenomena of psychic pets, or the ability of animals to discern conditions and emotional states not visible to the naked eye or discernible to humans.  The senses of animals have often confounded human explanation, as in stories of animals traveling hundreds of miles to reunite with owners, and dogs which can detect physical diseases and conditions, like cancer, in humans and other organisms.  Some dogs have detected low blood sugar, indicating a diabetic condition

Acupuncture is another alternative healing method which has gained a remarkable degree of credibility, whose ability to relieve pain and promote calm is still not completely understood.  These and other psychic alternative therapies deserve consideration in Dr. Theodora Stolz tool kit of psychotherapy selections.  She feels both disciplines can be combined for the betterment of the subject.

Reiki, A Holistic Approach – Dr. Leonora Stolz

Dr. Leonora Stolz is open to the use of alternative forms of treatment like reiki therapy, a Japanese spiritual practice which is regarded as a pseudoscientific alternative medicine.  It is described as a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing.  Developed by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui, it has been called palm healing, or hands on healing, and practitioners believe they are passing on universal energy, or ki, through the palms.  Systemized hand placements are the primary approach of westernized versions of reiki, whereas traditional Buddhist forms of the treatment called for a series of set hand positions.

Reiki made its way to Western culture through the training of Hawayo Takata, an émigré to Hawaii who adjusted traditional reiki to be more understandable to the mentality of the west.  Descriptions of the belief in the practice, are poetic: “…that mysterious vital energy within the mind: one moment it arrives, the next it departs. So fine, there is nothing within it; so vast, there is nothing outside it.  We lose it because of the harm caused by mental agitation…”It is described as a form of holistic therapy, useful on physical, spiritual, emotional and mental levels. The belief is that energy will flow from the practitioner’s hands, and even that the energy transfer is dependent on intention.

Dr. Theodora Stolz is open, as in all other areas of her practice, to the possibilities of reiki therapy, and to the wants and needs of her patients.

An Eastern Education – Dr. Theodora Stolz

Marymount Manhattan College is a small, coed, private college dedicated to educating a diverse student population from different social and economic strata of society.  Founded in 1936, Marymount moved to its present location on 71st St. in 1948, becoming a 4 year, bachelor’s degree institution, with a charter issued in 1961 by the Regents of the University of New York.  Marymount offers 19 major programs of study.  Coeducational, with a 76% female enrollment, Marymount absorbed the records of the closing Finch College in 1976, an elite finishing school for female students, best known for graduate Tricia Nixon Cox, daughter of U.S. President Richard Nixon. Dr. Theodora Stolz’ fondly remembered Marymount Manhattan College boasts notable graduates including Princess Marie of Denmark, actress Moira Kelly, and political candidate Geraldine Ferraro.

Soldiering on in spite of adversity, Theodora Stolz applied for her doctorate work at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, originally known in its origins in 1935 as Nassau College.  The institution separated from New York University the following year, and became the independent Hofstra College, gaining university status in 1963.  A private, nonsectarian institution, Hofstra presents 10 colleges of study, has full accreditation in 19 academic areas, and has hosted presidential debates.  Hofstra boasts its own Globe Theatre replica, with annual Shakespeare festivals.  With a strong history of Greek life on campus, Hofstra boasts such high profile graduates as James Caan, actor, Francis Ford Coppola, director, and Bernie Madoff, convicted Wall Street investor.

The Comfort Bond Between Doctor and Patient – Dr. Theodora Stolz

The search for therapeutic help for personal and intersocial issues is at the heart of the individual’s search for psychotherapy.  Issues can run the gamut from depression, lifestyle changes, losses due to death of unemployment, and relationship crises and dramas.  A psycho therapist’s approach can be multi-pronged, dealing with behavioral techniques, cognitive identification and adaptations, even shock therapy.  It is important that the patient understand his or her psychologist’s technique and principles, and explore the fit for both patient and doctor.  The relationship between therapist and patient should be collaborative, supportive, objective and able to change with the evolving dynamics of the patient’s treatment.  Dr. Theodora Stolz strives to incorporate an open mind into her non- judgmental approach to her patients, and always works for the maximum comfort level between herself and her subjects.

Latter day bohemians may be described as more ‘zen’, focused more on spirituality than on poverty or art.  It is into this category that Dr. Theodora Stolz may be more accurately understood.  Theodora has an especial interest in combining her individualistic interests with her psychology practice.   Dr. Stolz sees herself as more ‘earthy’ than doctoral, more ‘cozy’ than stuffy, and prefers to view her patients as “two people together trying to solve a problem”.  Theodora feels this realization of her psychology practice approach to therapy, is her greatest achievement, and makes her unique.  She strives to incorporate her many loves and passions into her therapeutic approach.

Dr. Theodora Stolz and Compulsive Gambling

Dr. Theodora Stolz is a psychologist that has dedicated a tremendous part of her practice to treating compulsive gambling. She has worked with the treatment of this all of her career. In fact, before she even went into practice, in 1989 she wrote a much referenced thesis on the topic called Cognitive Factors in Pathological Gambling while she was a PhD student at Hofstra University. At the time, she was quite familiar with the topic and inspired by her personal experiences as she was married to a man who had a dangerous gambling habit, and that was something that affected the lives of both her and her son, Thomas Lynello Dean.   It wasn’t long before this situation resulted in divorce and that became the inspiration for her paper and career path. Her experience and insight laid out in that thesis have been referenced in more recent studies over the years, including a major study done at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas that involved the dissatisfaction of customers within the gaming industry. As Dr. Stolz practices in both York and New Jersey, help people in these situations has been of benefit to the community. Over the years she has helped many people confront the reasons why they are in the midst of situations they are in, how they are affecting their family and helped them find the road back to a happy and healthy lifestyle. Her approach is comprehensive and she uses all types of techniques in her therapy and treatment programs.

Dr. Theodora Stolz Meditating is Great

Dr. Theodora Stolz is a licensed and practicing psychologist that loves to talk about meditation. Meditation is one of the ways she engages with her patients in order to give them the opportunity to release and channel energy, get in touch with their most pressing thoughts and find comfort in being present in the moment. Meditation has been around a long time and has served many people quite well for hundreds if not thousands of years. People that meditate at a minimum get the satisfaction that they are focusing on themselves, but the truth is that it would not have stuck around for that long if there wasn’t’ something to it. Dr. Theodora Stolz certainly espouses the great benefits of meditation and the effects of relaxation and clarity that come from making this a part of a person’s day and most certainly a part of the therapy sessions she sets up with her clients.     If you look around at the very well-known religions that implement meditation you will find that the practice has endured and is central to a great number of them. For practitioners of meditation, there is no doubt that the practice brings them the even awareness that they seek and the soothing effects that come with it.   That is why this has become more and more a western practice that has brought many people into the fold, and people from all walks of life are doing it each and every day.   It is most likely going to be around for a long time to come.

Dr. Theodora Stolz Helps Compulsive Gamblers

Gambling addiction is a psychological dilemma that Dr. Theodora Stolz knows all too well. As she was finishing up her PhD studies at Hofstra University, she was married to a man who had a dangerous gambling habit, and it was something that affected the lives of both her and her son, Thomas Lynello Dean. After the divorce, Dr. Theodora Stolz decided she needed to use her chosen career path as a way to help others get rid of their gambling habit, so less people like Thomas Lynello Dean and herself would have to suffer the effects of seeing a loved family member gamble away more than their money.

That experience had such an impact on Dr. Theodora Stolz’s life that she decided to write her thesis around gambling addiction. She titled it Cognitive Factors in Pathological Gambling and published it in 1989. Since, it has appeared in studies that include one done at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas that involved the dissatisfaction of customers within the gaming industry.

Since then, Dr. Theodora Stolz got her PhD and was licensed in both New York and New Jersey, where she has helped people with pathological gambling problems. From the casinos of Atlantic City to the underground poker and billiards halls of Brooklyn, she has encountered a variety of gambling types who all practice the same addiction in different ways. It is her mission to help these people so that they and their families can get back to normalcy at home while feeling safe and happy again.
